Marcel Breuer
Known to his friends and associates as Lajkó, Breuer studied and taught at the Bauhaus in the 1920s. Breuer was eventually appointed to a teaching position as head of the school's carpentry workshop. He then practiced in Berlin, designing houses and businesses. In the 1920s and 1930s, Breuer led the way of designing tubular steel furniture. Later in his career he would also turn his attention to the creation of modern and new wooden furniture.
Marcel Breuer designed more than seventy private houses as well as numerous university and office buildings. Some of his well known designs are the Wassily Chair, Cesca Chair, Laccio Table and the S44 Bookcase. He was indeed one of the most important Modernists.
